What is a Virtual PBX?

Learn about this internet-based phone

A virtual PBX is in essence, an advanced phone system that is affordable, easy to use and accessible from anywhere. This type of phone system is “virtual” for a reason; While it works with existing phones and existing lines for businesses, it uses an internet connection to keep your telecommunications line connected. You can forward calls, set up conference calls, create greetings and more.

When you switch your office to virtual telecommunications you keep communications professional without compromising reliability. For example, when a customer dials your local company number or your 1-800 number, they will be greeted by an auto-attendant. The customized greeting will typically state your business name and include commonly dialed extensions and departments, routing callers to the correct extension. Greetings can even be customized to match your hours of operations. If a customer calls after business hours, an after-hours message will play with the option for the customer to leave a voicemail.

Because these virtual PBX systems are connected through the internet, employees and executives can receive calls on any phone in any location. Simply forward phone calls to an offsite phone (home office, cell, friend’s house) and you can make sure each and every call is answered in a timely manner. Not only will you reduce hold times, you will also increase office efficiency. Customers will reach the intended employee without having to speak with several different employees. This advanced call routing will increase customer satisfaction and retention.

Whether you are new to the world of entrepreneurship or you are a seasoned business owner looking to lower your operational costs, consider the benefits of switching from a traditional system to a virtual PBX.

What is a IP-PBX Appliance On Premises or Internal Network?

An IP- PBX (Private Branch Exchange) is a private telephony switch, allowing the owner (which may be an organization or any kind) to act like a mini-service-provider for its users, while, normally providing many additional features, such as call transfer, call-waiting, IVR (Interactive Voice Response), queues, reports and more. As the organization is the owner of the IP-PBX, it is not being charged for internal calls (calls between extensions that are both registered on the PBX), though, based on the type of service, it may charge for such calls (such as in the case of a business center providing telephony services to the tenant-businesses).

The phone handsets in any business or other organization are almost never connected directly to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephony Network), but rather to the local PBX which provides it with dial-tone and all its features.
